Elegant Violence is a term synonymous with rugby. Rugby, the Marine Corps, service, and the friendships I made during those years, formed me. Purpose, service and friendships drove me to these institutions and I'm committed to giving back to them. Navy Rugby, much like the Naval Academy, is an institution. Navy Rugby was formed over 60 years ago on the banks of the Severn River and has been a mainstay on the yard ever since.

Elegant Violence LLC is dedicated to growing college rugby, Navy Rugby and rugby in general. The core pillar of Elegant Violence is service. Giving back to the Naval Academy Rugby programs is fundamental to our fabric as a company. Support rugby and support Elegant Violence!

The Founder

Devin "Hat Trick" Smiley

Devin started out with the 'East German' side as a soccer convert before working up to a B-Side All American with Navy Rugby. Devin is also a Marine Veteran with three decades of military service. He started out on the yellow footprints of Parris Island and later earned his wings as an AH-1W Super Cobra pilot as well as a Weapons & Tactics Instructor.

Devin retired in the Annapolis area with his wife, four kids and two high-energy German Shorthair Pointers. He has volunteered with Navy Rugby for the last few years and recently found his way into the broadcast booth. Sometimes known to Navy Rugby players parents as 'the voice of Navy Rugby,' he can be found pacing the sidelines or at the top of the stands announcing on the men's and women's YouTube livestream.
